MDA Seminar Planned for Feb. 25 - 1/12/2012

Dr. Michael Tolentino and Dr. Benjamin Kim are featured speakers for the February 25, 2012, Educational Seminar to be held at The Waterfront Inn in The Villages.

LV Support Group Meeting - 12/14/2011

Center for Retina and Macular Disease is hosting a program on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, 3:30-5PM. "New Technology for Low Vision, Electronic Readers, and More" will be held at CRMD's Winter Haven location at 250 Ave. K, SW, Suite 200. The speaker will be Ike Presley, American Foundation for the Blind. This is a meeting of the Low Vision Support Group for people affected by macular degeneration and other eye conditions that cause vision loss.

CRMD Joined Vision Walk in Tampa - 11/30/2011

Center for Retina and Macular Disease had a team of employees participate in the Foundation Fighting Blindness' 4th annual Vision Walk. The event took place on Saturday, November 19, 2011, at Al Lopez Park in Tampa, Florida. It was a beautiful sunny day to support a great cause!

Fall MDA Educational Seminar Planned - 11/19/2011

Drs. Kim and Tolentino will join the Macular Degeneration Association for an educational seminar in Clearwater, Florida, November 19, 2011, 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m. The seminar is titled, "Vision Loss Epidemic! Learn how to Predict, Protect and Preserve!" The event will be held at the Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater.

Dr. Adam Berger Joins MDA Board - 10/10/2011

SARASOTA, FL, - October 10, 2011 - The Macular Degeneration Association (MDA) announces Adam Berger, M.D. as the newest member of the Association’s medical board. Dr.Berger is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in diseases of the vitreous and retina. He received his medical degree from the State University of New York, Brooklyn, NY. Dr.Berger is a recognized expert in new therapies for retinal and macular Diseases.

Low Vision Support Group Meets this Fall - 8/31/2011

Center for Retina and Macular Disease will again sponsor a Low Vision Support Group the second Wednesday of each month this fall. Each meeting is held at our Winter Haven Location at 250 Ave. K, SW, Ste. 200, from 3:30-5:00PM.

CRMD to Co-host Symposium for Optometrists - 8/26/2011

Center for Retina and Macular Disease joins with the Optometric Retina Society in creating the first Optometric Retina Symposium (ORS). This educational meeting will be held Friday through Sunday, August 26-28, 2011, at Walt Disney World.

Dr. Gehrs Published in Human Genomics - 8/11/2011

Dr. Karen Gehrs has co-authored research entitled, "Clinical Validation of a Genetic Model to Estimate the Risk of Developing Choroidal Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration."

Dr. Tolentino Program Chair for July Event - 7/16/2011

Dr. Michael Tolentino is the program chair for a Summer Educational Seminar on Saturday, July 16, 2011. The event will be held in Dothan, Alabama.

Dr. Braudway Has Joined MDA Board - 5/25/2011

The Macular Degeneration Association (MDA) is pleased to announce Dr. Sonya M. Braudway as the newest member of the MDA Medical Advisory Board. Dr. Braudway received her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the Corpus Christi State University and her doctorate from the University of Houston College Of Optometry.

Dr. Karen Gehrs, a retina specialist with the Center for Retina and Macular Disease, has co-authored a study published in the April 2011 issue of "Archives of Ophthalmology."

Optometric Retina Symposium Set for August - 4/19/2011

The Optometric Retina Society in conjunction with The Center for Retina and Macular Disease announces The Optometric Retina Symposium at Walt Disney World. This one-of-a-kind meeting is the first to be developed through the cooperative efforts of optometrists and retinal specialists. This program is designed to bring a new educational format to the practitioners (optometrists) in the form of “quick hit,” cutting-edge topics.

Dr. Gehrs Co-Authors ARMD/Vita D Study - 4/14/2011

Dr. Karen Gehrs, a retina specialist with the Center for Retina and Macular Disease, has co-authored a study published in the April issue of the Archives of Ophthalmology. The study findings explain that certain levels of Vitamin D may be associated with a reduced likelihood of developing early age-related macular degeneration in women younger than 75 years of age. Dr. Gehrs and the other researchers found that "Vitamin D status may significantly affect a woman's odds of developing early AMD."

Low Vision Technology Day - 4/13/2011

Center for Retina and Macular Disease will host a Low Vision Technoglogy Day on Wednesday, April 13, 3-5PM, at our Winter Haven office.

MDA Holds First Educational Conference - 4/8/2011

On March 26, 2011, the Macular Degeneration Association (MDA) hosted its first educational conference in Tampa, Florida. The conference educated age-related macular degeneration (AMD) patients about the scientific advances in treatments currently evolving in the field of macular degeneration. Nearly 200 AMD patients, caregivers, and family members were in attendance.

Dr. Kim - Panelist for Senior Care at LRMC - 3/10/2011

Dr. Benjamin Kim and two other area ophthalmologists will be a part of a panel discussion called "What's Up Doc?" on Thursday, March 10, 6-7PM.

Opening Office in The Villages - 2/28/2011

Center for Retina and Macular Disease announces our newest location in The Villages. We are now accepting appointments for the office which opened February 28, 2011.

Dr. Tolentino Joins Board - 9/23/2010

Dr. Michael Tolentino has joined the board of Macular Degeneration Association as Scientific Director.The Macular Degeneration Association is a non-profit health organization providing age-related macular degeneration research, information and advocacy. The mission of the organization is to cure macular degeneration and to improve the lives of all people affected by the disease.
