Vitrectomy Recovery
Vitrectomy support systems provide specialized chairs and cushions to help patients maintain required head positioning for retinal recovery.
The vitreous body is the clear gel that fills the space between the lens and the retina of the eye. A vitrectomy is a surgery to remove some or all of the vitreous body to help treat a variety of vision impairments. In some cases, vitrectomy requires a bubble of gas to be placed inside the eye to assist in retinal recovery. This gas bubble will be replaced with more gel over time however the process can take several weeks and require specific head positioning to be maintained.
Several companies provide vitrectomy support systems to help aid during the recovery period. These systems consist of specifically designed chairs and cushions to allow you to comfortably maintain the recovery position for your surgery. Vitrectomy support systems can be rented for the period prescribed by your physician and are not usually covered by insurance (check with your provider).
